Julian has been an active and successful violin teacher for over 7 years, with students from the ages of 4 to 56. His plans for the future include pursuing a music career in composition and performance, as well as maintaining an avid teaching studio. His extensive knowledge of the instrument and stronger focus on teaching practicing techniques have enabled his students to do very well and even some have gone on to win awards in various competitions and festivals. Over the summer of 2010, he was on faculty for the Chamber Music Festival through the Cleveland Institute of Music Preparatory department and was one of the main directors and instructors at the Coda Music Academy in West Virginia. In addition, he has also been an avid violin instructor and has maintained a private teaching studio for over 7 years. His current aspirations have been in composition and performance, writing many original pieces and arrangements which contain elements of both classical instrumentation and electronic audio elements.
has also performed with the The Trans-Siberian Orchestra, was the lead violinist in the flamenco group, Nomad, and, most recently, is one of the founding members of the Eridanus Quartet. Since then, he has also performed with a large number of ensembles and bands, including the Meadows Symphony Orchestra at Southern Methodist University, the Cleveland Institute of Music Orchestra, and numerous chamber music ensembles. In 2006, he became one of the core members of the eclectic hip-hop band, The Off Button, an elegant fusion of upright bass, banjo, violin, percussion, vocals, and rap artists. Though his training has been largely classical, he also has interests in jazz, fiddle, Latin, hip-hop, electronic and many other styles of music. He received his training both at Southern Methodist University in Dallas and from the Cleveland Institute of Music, from which he recently received his Masters in Music Performance. He continues to work to connect with people through music and is always excited to meet new people and work with new ensembles.Julian has always been a creative and diverse musician, breaking down the distinctive barriers among different genres of music. Heinlein is a passionate advocate for the important cultural role of music, and to that end has presented master classes, workshops, and performances in a variety of schools and settings around the region and across the country. Finally, he performs each summer as Principal Tuba of the Blossom Festival Band, and also performs frequently with the Cleveland Orchestra Brass Quintet. Heinlein is also a member of the Blue Water Chamber Orchestra, and also performs with a number of regional groups across Ohio and Michigan, including CityMusic Cleveland and the Blossom Festival Orchestra. He is also frequently engaged as a substitute performer with a number of larger orchestras, and has performed with the Cleveland Orchestra, the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra. Heinlein holds the position of Principal Tuba in both the Akron Symphony Orchestra and the Erie Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also worked extensively with Yasuhito Sugiyama and Craig Sutherland.Īn active performer, Mr. Heinlein is pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Michigan, working with Fritz Kaenzig.
He continued his studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he earned his Master of Music degree studying with Ronald Bishop, former Principal Tuba of the Cleveland Orchestra. He was born and raised in Grayling, Michigan and earned his Bachelor of Music degree from Central Michigan University and studied with Mark Cox.
Heinlein performs as a member of the Kent Brass Quintet. In addition to teaching lessons and studio class, Mr. Ken Heinlein is Assistant Professor of Tuba (part-time) at Kent State University.
